I've noticed this phenomenon with every melee bot I've ever put in the rumble: it starts out strong, but the rating slowly declines as it fights more and more battles (even after it has complete pairings). Does anyone know the cause of this?--CrazyBassoonist 17:51, 24 April 2011 (UTC) | I've noticed this phenomenon with every melee bot I've ever put in the rumble: it starts out strong, but the rating slowly declines as it fights more and more battles (even after it has complete pairings). + | One possibility is due to saved data by some bots. Another is if it is a codesize restricted bot, it always tends to go down when codesize restricted battles take place to fill up to 2000 battles in mini/micro/nano. After that it will (very) slowly go up again. At least, that is my experience. --GrubbmGait 18:58, 24 April 2011 (UTC) | ||

+ | You face all classes until you hit 2000 battles, then minis and below until 2000 in MiniRumble, then micros until 2000 in MicroRumble, etc. Unless Darkcanuck changed that - I remember talk of just doing the smallest class after it gets to 2000 in General. --Voidious 20:00, 24 April 2011 (UTC) |

Congrats on this very strong competitor. The power of Circular Targeting indeed is underestimated in melee, all my bots (except GrofVuil) are using it. So the idea of getting to a good spot, occupied or not, gives you the edge in micromelee. I am curious though if you can hold #2 as soon as mini- and micro-battles are fought, as my experience is that meleemovements work best when other good meleebots are around. --GrubbmGait 23:30, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm not quite sure what you mean about the mini/micro battles, I had always thought that all melee battles were fought with bots of all codesizes. And actually, while testing it, I found that it did much worse when very good bots were on the field. Trying to take a corner from a nano melee bot with linear targeting and simple movement is often a good idea, whereas trying to take it from Shadow can be a recipe for disaster.... In fact, that happens far too often when it is placed in a battle with a top melee bot.--CrazyBassoonist 23:39, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
With mini/micro battles I mean when all bots have fought 2000 (or what the client has filled in) battles in megamelee. If a mini/micro bot still needs battles in minimelee, battles are with mini (or smaller) only. Same when minibattles have reached 2000, then a micro will fight micro/nano battles till reaching the amount of battles there. My experience is that pure Minimum Risk Movement is less effective in the smaller classes and the more agressive movements more effective. I'm not sure which qualification suites your movement best though, that's why I am curious :) --GrubbmGait 23:53, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh. Interesting, I didn't know that. I would probably consider it's movement an aggressive one, at least definitely more so than most of the other top melee bots. It tends to advance towards whatever robots are in the closest corner, and then stay there unless it has an enemy that is very far away.--CrazyBassoonist 00:01, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Congrats! Wow, really nice work. BlitzBat always loses points in mini/micro battles, but I don't think it's ever been 1%, your current margin over Shiz. Good luck in your quest for the MicroMelee throne! --Voidious 01:10, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. It'd be pretty cool for me if I could unseat sprout! I think I'm actually going to gain points from mini/micro battles too, as this is very much a pick-on-the-weak robot=)--CrazyBassoonist 01:40, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Also, it would be nice to see some competition from BlitzBat if you ever feel like it :-)--CrazyBassoonist 01:55, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm a tad obsessed with Diamond at the moment, and I don't have any promising ideas for BlitzBat, but I will get back to it some day. =) Reading this page makes me wonder if I should try to fit some circular targeting in there... --Voidious 14:26, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Now that the mini and microbattles reached the 2000, it is safe to say that your movement qualifies as 'meleemovement'. Still holding second place, but the APS went down noticable, around 0.7%. And as a clarification on my first note: When fighting against 9 other good bots, you will die fast. When there is only 1 or 2 other good bots, they 'help' by eliminating the others faster, sparing you for the endgame and an almost certain third or second place. Melee is a strange fight, thats for sure. --GrubbmGait 10:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Improvement
I've been trying to make a better version of this robot since it was released, but I still have yet to find a way to make it quantitatively better. This is becoming quite depressing as I would really like to take the top spot in the micro melee rumble--CrazyBassoonist 02:29, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Congrats on taking the MicroMeleeRumble throne! =) --Voidious 22:22, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. It was actually a really small change that did it, putting a minimum distance on movement points--CrazyBassoonist 23:06, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
