Anyone try it?

Not sure if you guys saw this from the 1.9.0.0 beta: [1]

Anyone try it yet? Seems pretty weird. :-) I was curious to just plop Diamond's gun in there and see how it goes but I haven't bothered yet. Unless it doesn't have radar either? I'm sure we don't want these in the existing rumbles, so we may have to handle that in the rumble client/server soon too.

Interesting addition to Robocode. From how that post reads to me, it doesn't look like we need to do anything special to block them in the existing rumble client/server, as it looks like they're only enabled in special rulesets.

As a general note, my overall impression of the idea, is that it could be neat for "showmatches" but I'm not sure if it meaningfully adds to the strategy bots should use when they're in play. Robots could consider different wall boundaries to be wider if the sentries were destroyed, however I can't see it as being productive to attempt to destroy them.

"can only make damage to other robot types within the *sentry border*."

Does this mean they don't have guns? If they do, can their bullets only travel up to 100 pixels?

I don't quite understand how these will work, but 500 energy points sure would be nice.

Huh, interesting. I remember those old shows. Anyway, I am sure that it would be pretty risky to talk on a border sentry robot. Especially if one had a high tier gun.

I can't really say any more until I play with it, since I am not sure I entirely get it yet.

Downloaded version 1.9.0.0 to see how sentry bots work. Created a few battles with one Guard and a few SittingDuck bots.

Battles are the same as before unless you explicitly add sentry bots as participants.

Bullets do get past sentry borders and into the middle of the battlefield, but do no damage unless they hit someone inside border limits.

Default battle rules are 800x600 battlefield size with 100 border. Creating a 600x400 safe center.
