Correct way to revert a bot to a previous version

Can I revert the wiki page to the previous link and version number, or should I repackage it with a new version number? eg. Re-release v1.0.0 as v.1.0.0a David414 (talk) 21:23, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

As long as you don’t mistakenly revert some one else’s bot, the first is ok. The second approach is usually seen when needing to reset scores, e.g. weird battle results. Xor (talk) 06:59, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is Rednaxela's mirror down?

Was trying to run RoboRumble today and it seemed like it was down for a week or so. Is there any alternative to download participants' bots nowadays? Rsalesc (talk) 22:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why do we host bots outside of this wiki?

Why do we host bots outside of this wiki?

If we upload bots to wiki, we would always have bots ready for download as long as wiki is online. If it is not-online, literumble clients cannot access the list of bots anyway, so it is as bad as missing jars for download.

Additionally, we would not depend on big brother hostings like GitHub, Google, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. These are notorious for changing their APIs leading to bots disappearance. Our own webservers go down too, though I would claim, situation is better than big hosting providers.

I see only one reason: it would increase wiki storage space requirement. But the latest bots archive at [1] is only 36 MB, which is nothing in comparison to the full wiki dump which is about 750 MB. Beaming (talk) 00:31, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Good idea! I also thought about that years ago, but haven't mentioned it.
It's really hard for a new participant to join the rumble — you have to be Java 5 compliment (before the recent update that raised the requirement to Java 8), and you have to find a hosting service which offers permanent links to direct download.
I'm also considering some API for manipulating the participants list — it's easy to break it, and anyone can do that (and causing the literumble to be unstable for awhile)
E.g. we may want to add a form, where you can submit your bot name with a download link, and it automatically validates your package to make sure no mistake. It may also remove the older version automatically. Xor (talk) 05:01, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Another reason would be, 1000+ request from every one who runs the rumble for the first time would be DDOS. And this really increases the fee in bandwidth.
But the solution is easy as well — force those who run the rumble for the first time use latest-participants archive. Xor (talk) 05:11, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Attempting to upload a robot JAR to the wiki produces the following error message:
The file is a ZIP file that contains a Java .class file. Uploading Java files is not allowed because they can cause security restrictions to be bypassed.
Until this problem is fixed, I am reverting your advice on RoboRumble/Enter The Competition. MultiplyByZer0 (talk) 21:20, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Properties file?

The instructions say that you must include a <botname>.properties file. However, there's no link to instructions on how to create this properties file, where to put it, or what to put in it. This would be extremely helpful. I don't want to have to go reading the source code. Thanks. TopQuark (talk) 05:06, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you package your bot normally through Robocode, it's there and you don't need to worry about it. I'm not sure why these instructions need to have that detail... Voidious (talk) 05:16, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I second TopQuark. I do not like to use gui for my projects especisally if simple makefile does the job. So while ago I looked inside of the .properties file.
It is not that complicated and apparently not all fields of it are checked.
Every time I jar my bot I put updated .properties file with newly regenerated robot.version and uuid fields. Looks like the rest of it is not checked by robocode. Note that my bots are listed with eem.EvBot marker when I put them for competition. Below is my template.
: #Robot Properties : #Sat Aug 11 01:30:45 EDT 2012 : robot.description=Simple predictor for fire and naive evasion : robocode.version=1.6.2 : robot.java.source.included=true : robot.version=v1.2 : robot.author.name=beaming : uuid=55ff1c5b-0c40-432d-adb5-a5f7658a4aed : robot.classname=eem.EvBot : Beaming (talk) 15:44, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wait - I don't get it. I've uploaded my bot into robocode repository, but I don't now how to get the download link to put on the participants page. The explaining paragraph says something about noting the corresponding id number. How would I get that id number? thanks AncientPyro (talk) 12:09, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

You should be able to see the ID in URL. Note that the Robocode Repository is not very stable, so maybe you should host your robot on your own hosting if available, or try some free service. Google Pages is proven to be working. Dropbox public link might work too, but hasn't been tested. Nat Pavasant 12:39, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much!!! It works! AncientPyro (talk) 20:05, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I need some help to enter the competition. Where to download my robot and how to put it to the competition
Can you explain to me? Dsekercioglu (talk) 16:42, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, welcome to the game.
Your question is a bit to general.
Please have a careful look at RoboRumble/Enter The Competition and ask for clarifications. We will be happy to help. Beaming (talk) 18:42, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Now I have my bot in dropbox but it doesn't look like the links of other robots my link is this "https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=dsekercioglu.Tomahawk_5.01.jar".
but other robots have links like dl.dropbox. Dsekercioglu (talk) 11:03, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
I forget to say.
Now I know how to put in roborumble just having problems with the site Dsekercioglu (talk) 11:04, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
I've done it.
The link is perfect. just one more question.
How many hours it takes until a added robot gets into the competition.
(very bad english sorry) Dsekercioglu (talk) 13:24, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, the link doesn't seem to work for me. Maybe try putting it in your Shared folder, then right-click, "get public link" or something similar and use that for the url. Skilgannon (talk) 05:07, 14 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much it didn't worked I tried it in a different way if it doesn't work I will try it your way Dsekercioglu (talk) 14:40, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
And thanks for the robots you have made. They helped meet Improve very much. (Not from code I didn't understand anything) Dsekercioglu (talk) 14:42, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just one more question I battled DrussGT against Diamond in 5000 round battle in robocode.command but Diamond gets %92. Is it because of robocode. Dsekercioglu (talk) 14:48, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry to say, but I do not understand your question. Could you please reword it? Beaming (talk) 23:51, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
DrussGT is the best robot on roborumble
but when it fights with Diamond in a 5000 round battles using normal robocode
Diamond wins %92 to %8
I Dsekercioglu (talk) 18:27, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
The roborumble is 35 rounds. I've never run more than 1000 rounds for DrussGT to be honest... Skilgannon (talk) 20:30, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
The roborumble runs only 35 rounds per battle, so most of us never put much thoughts for long runs. So, there could be a memory leak which kicks in on long battles, this would disable a bot, which leads to its defeat. Beaming (talk) 23:01, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
In 35 rounds it was beating like %98 %2 so I tried it in longer and longer battles. Dsekercioglu (talk) 06:23, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
And only one more question
I added my bot to the participants list and I can see Tomahawk in participants_latest.
But I've been waiting for 3 days and I can't see it in the rumble.
As I know it takes 1 - 24 hours to get into the roborumble.
Is it supposed to be like that??? Dsekercioglu (talk) 18:30, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Were you running a roborumble client? If you do, your bot should show up within 15 minutes or so, but it might be a few hours before you have full pairings against all bots. Skilgannon (talk) 20:41, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I was running but after the first 45 battles it was just starting to stay

My bot WhiteFang uses auto-segmentation. Is it a good tactic and are there other robots doing that? Dsekercioglu (talk) 15:59, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I mean that it tries to predict the best segments that could be used against it's enemy. Dsekercioglu (talk) 16:26, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Most top bots simply use all segments at the same time, but with different weights. They are usually tuned offline.
There are some top bots using 2 sets of segments. 1 for a general purpose gun and 1 for an anti-surfer gun. And the best set of segments is estimated on-the-fly. MN (talk) 04:08, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
MN thank you. I used all the datas the average hit rate increased like % 0.8. After I added auto-tuning for setting weights and average hit rate increased about %0.9. Dsekercioglu (talk) 19:20, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
The 2 segments which differ most between different opponents are the real/virtual wave segment and the data decay (time) segment. These are the 2 usually separated between "general purpose" and "anti-surfer" sets of segments.
Note that using many different targeting strategies for different situations may slow down learning speed (time wasted auto-tuning the gun for the optimal strategy). Because of this, most top bots use only 1 or 2 guns. MN (talk) 21:30, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't create a new gun and start it from the beginning. I test the segments alone and when they hit I multiply it with a default. So it keeps learning and uses the same kd-tree all the time. Also according to my results it increases learning.
This is the code of Tuning:(There are more code for intersection but the most simple one is this)
if (Tools.getDistance(currentX, currentY, myXD, myYD) < 72) {
AntiBotTuner.movementScores[index] *= 1.1;
}
Usage of weights:
double diff = Math.abs(p1[index] - p2[index]) * dsekercioglu.AntiBotTuner.movementScores[i];
In the future versions I will also use an Anti-Surfer Gun. Dsekercioglu (talk) 14:26, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
