Welcome / Java 7

Hey and welcome to the wiki! Nice to see a new wikizen jumping right into the rumble. One request though - could you compile your bots with Java 6 compatibility? Some folks are not on Java 7 yet, so we can't run your bots.

Good luck in the rumble!

Hi, thank you. I hope I'll manage to create some strong bots in the future ;D

I would compile it with Java 6, but do I have to download an older RoboCode version then too? Or should I directly compile and pack it with Eclipse?

Can you tell me how to run RoboRumble battles myself? I tried that RoboRumble.bat file, but it says "cannot connect" or something like that...

Your bots are really nice, btw ;)

Robocode only just now moved from requiring Java 5 to requiring Java 6. =) But I guess it's using your local Java 7 and doesn't have an option to compile for Java 6? I compile through Eclipse myself with robocode.jar in my build path. A Java 6 compatibility option in Robocode itself sounds like something that should be added if it's not there.

I think the best way to get setup is at RoboRumble/Starting With RoboRumble. The "superpack" has the rumble client correctly configured and a good base of bots to minimize what the client needs to download. Just post if you hit any snags and someone should be able to help you out.

And thanks! But I wouldn't mind if Diamond were 0.2 APS nicer. =)

Welcome =)

I know with javac if you add -target 1.6 -source 1.6 it should compile in 1.6 compatible mode. I'm not sure how to do that with Eclipse though.

Oh, and Voidious, I'm quite happy if Diamond doesn't improve too much in the near future. I need to work on my MSc, not Robocode! :-p

Don't worry, I'm pretty heads down on another project right now. =) Not to mention my full-time job and my dog and (returning to) getting enough sleep...
