Welcome to the wiki! Nice to see you diving right in with making pages and discussing some theory. =) Best of luck with your bots. --Voidious 02:10, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey Voidious. Yeah, I'm actually pretty passionate about writing things down (I blog, and I'm a huge proponent of sharing knowledge), and a wiki where I can actually share stuff is pretty cool. I'm just curious, has Robocode kind of lost its community? The wiki simply lacking in a lot of parts, which, understandably there was an old one which everything would have to migrated from, but I imagine it would be a bit more dense if the community was still alive and kicking. I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say we've "lost the community", but the average amount of activity has probably been on gradual decline since about 2004 (before my time, even). Or maybe it's leveled off now. There are also huge spikes and lulls - I think a lot of inactive Robocoders still check the wiki and get inspired depending on what's going on. And lots of people steal just enough time from Real Life to feed their Robocode addiction, and don't make time to actually update the wiki about what they're doing. College student Robocoders probably have more free time in summer/winter breaks. And so on...

It's true that a lot of stuff hasn't been migrated, but the old wiki wasn't exactly perfectly organized, either. I do think just a few passionate contributors could make huge improvements to the wiki, and some of us are working on it, if slowly. =) My current focus is making everything a bit more newbie-friendly and generally coherent and digestible - I'm starting with an overhaul of the main page (at User:Voidious/Main Page right now), then branching out and polishing / creating / migrating (from the old wiki) everything I think should be linked from there.

You're more than welcome to jump in and improve the wiki as you see fit! That would be great! Feel free to propose even major changes or just make them - someone will say something if it's a horrible idea that should be reverted. =) Special:Wantedpages is also a good jumping off point for pages that should be created or migrated. And of course, let us know if you have questions about anything...
